Duties Description

This position is with Region 7 Bureau of Wildlife. The Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 will be stationed at the Cortland sub-office and will be responsible for:

• Conducting flora surveys using various types of equipment to inventory and document the condition of wildlife habitats.

• Providing support for various wildlife programs activities; deer checks, waterfowl banding, and pheasant stocking.

• Assisting with habitat management on Bureau of Wildlife administered lands (e.g., prescribed burning, control of invasive plant species).

• Responding to inquiries from the public via phone, email, and in person.

• Assisting with collection of samples required for pathological testing.

• Assisting with wildlife education and outreach activities.

• Posting Wildlife Management Area boundaries.

• Maintaining/repairing field equipment.

• Performing intermediate GIS tasks.

• Supervising Fish and Wildlife Technician 1, interns, and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.

Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.

Additional Comments

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2027. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
