Structural Field Engineer-Lead
Job Summary
- In this role, you will monitor and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders’ involvement, through the coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff.
- Your field supervision will help ensure operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely.
- The Lead Structural Field Engineer reports to the Area Field Engineer/Project Field Engineer and is responsible for the technical oversight of all steel activities on the project.
- The selected applicant shall provide technical direction to the direct hire work force as well as supervision.
- The Lead Structural Field Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the structural steel related work.
- Must have experience with construction in all areas of concrete and steel structures.
- Coordinate with supervision the work schedule and any material deliveries required.
- Complete training requirements assigned.
- Preparation of concrete and steel installation work packages.
- Inspection of field installations and completion of associated documentation.
- Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting for all civil/structural quantities.
- Prepare field change documentation and as-built documentation as required.
- Interface with engineering office to resolve design and constructability issue.
- Assist superintendents and subcontractors in constructability and quality issues.
- Work with the suppliers to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
- Prepare material requisitions, coordinate and review vendor drawings.
- Work with Procurement's expediting team to ensure the delivery of vendor materials to support the projects schedule.
- Interpret design drawings.
- Complete Concrete material take-offs.
- Assure that materials are stored properly to ensure environmental protection.
- Material receipt inspections as required.
- Reviews specifications, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals and technical data.
- Assist with preparation of construction estimates.
- Recommend design or installation improvements to improve safety on the project.
- University/B.S degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is desired but may be waived if equivalent industry experience can be demonstrated.
- 6-8 years minimum field civil/structural engineering experience.
- Experience with direct hire craft preferred.
- Contract management experience.
- Understanding of applicable work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred.
- Experience in mining and metals.
- Familiarity with Standard Applications (BSAPs) including ACONEX, TEAMWorks, PTR, eSub and other automation tools which are used on projects is an asset.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
