Structural Field Engineer-Lead

Job Summary

• In this role, you will monitor and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders’ involvement, through the coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff.
• Your field supervision will help ensure operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely.
  
  

Major Responsibilities

• The Lead Structural Field Engineer reports to the Area Field Engineer/Project Field Engineer and is responsible for the technical oversight of all steel activities on the project.
• The selected applicant shall provide technical direction to the direct hire work force as well as supervision.
• The Lead Structural Field Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the structural steel related work.
• Must have experience with construction in all areas of concrete and steel structures.
• Coordinate with supervision the work schedule and any material deliveries required.
• Complete training requirements assigned.
• Preparation of concrete and steel installation work packages.
• Inspection of field installations and completion of associated documentation.
• Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting for all civil/structural quantities.
• Prepare field change documentation and as-built documentation as required.
• Interface with engineering office to resolve design and constructability issue.
• Assist superintendents and subcontractors in constructability and quality issues.
• Work with the suppliers to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
• Prepare material requisitions, coordinate and review vendor drawings.
• Work with Procurement's expediting team to ensure the delivery of vendor materials to support the projects schedule.
• Interpret design drawings.
• Complete Concrete material take-offs.
• Assure that materials are stored properly to ensure environmental protection.
• Material receipt inspections as required.
• Reviews specifications, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals and technical data.
• Assist with preparation of construction estimates.
• Recommend design or installation improvements to improve safety on the project.
  
  

Education And Experience Requirements

• University/B.S degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is desired but may be waived if equivalent industry experience can be demonstrated.
• 6-8 years minimum field civil/structural engineering experience.
  
  

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Experience with direct hire craft preferred.
• Contract management experience.
• Understanding of applicable work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred.
• Experience in mining and metals.
• Familiarity with Standard Applications (BSAPs) including ACONEX, TEAMWorks, PTR, eSub and other automation tools which are used on projects is an asset.
• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
