Essential Job Functions
MACHINE OPERATION AND PROCESS CONTROL
- Operate Necker/Flanger: Set up, operate, and continuously monitor the Necker machines, which narrow the can opening and form the flange (lip) that accepts the lid.
- Dimensional Adjustment: Make fine adjustments to tooling, guides, and machine timing to maintain critical dimensional tolerances (e.g., neck diameter, flange width, body height).
- Tooling Management: Assist with minor tooling changes, setups, and ensuring all tooling components are clean and free of defects before installation.
- Process Flow: Manage the continuous, high-speed flow of cans through the equipment, including conveyors and associated Light Testers/Inspectors, to prevent jams and damage.
- In-Process Checks: Perform frequent, detailed dimensional checks on finished cans using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, specialized neck gauges, and height gauges.
- Defect Identification: Identify and troubleshoot common Necker/Flanger defects, such as splits, wrinkles, cracked flanges, or inconsistent neck profiles. Segregate and document non-conforming product.
- Inspection Systems: Monitor electronic inspection equipment (e.g., Light Testers, vision systems) for proper function and calibration.
- Troubleshooting: Quickly diagnose and resolve equipment jams, minor mechanical failures, and process interruptions related to the forming process to minimize downtime.
