Position Summary
The Human Resources Specialist is a versatile, detail-oriented professional responsible for supporting the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to professional development and offboarding. This role serves as a key point of contact for faculty and staff, ensuring that all departmental activities—including job postings, search committee facilitation, and benefits coordination (FMLA/ADA)—align with Alabama Community College System (ACCS) requirements and federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employment
- Manage job postings across internal and external platforms and ensure compliance with ACCS requirements
- Support search committees by preparing screening materials, facilitating meetings, and ensuring equitable search procedures and communications with applicants
- Assist in determining compensation and preparation of offer letters and supporting documents
- Facilitate new-employee orientation and ensure all onboarding tasks are completed within required timelines
- Facilitate offboarding checklists and processes exits including an exit interview
- Coordinate FMLA/ADA under the guidance of the Manager and Director
- Assist Director with preparation and planning for professional development
- Prepare and track professional development announcements & track attendance
- Design and present professional development training
- Assist in researching, drafting, and updating HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with ACCS, state, and federal regulations
- Track and prepare FMLA documentation and collaboration with ADA
- Coordinate & review data from employee surveys to present to the Director
- Assists all members of the Human Resources Team as needed and with high priority tasks or in peak seasons
- Serves on college committees as assigned
- Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System, and the College
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in human resources, organizational leadership, business or related field from an approved U.S. Department of Education accredited institution required
- Bachelor’s degree from an approved U.S. Department of Education accredited institution preferred
- Two (2) years’ experience in Human Resources, recruiting or similar role required
- Experience in designing or delivering professional development training preferred

Salary Calculation: For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all full-time work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other full-time work experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position.
