Position Summary
Director of Facilities
Salary Schedule: Commensurate with education and experience according to Salary Schedule C2.
Scope of Responsibilities: The Director of Facilities will oversee the daily operations activities for all campus grounds, buildings, equipment, construction projects ad provide direction in the establishment and operation of campus security and personal security.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, President and Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, responsibilities include the following:
- Provide leadership, supervision, and performance evaluation for all Maintenance Department operations to ensure efficient, high-quality service delivery.
- Oversee the procurement of technical parts, equipment, and materials necessary for planned projects and emergency repairs.
- Support the development, implementation, and ongoing management of a computerized consumable-inventory control system.
- Coordinate all internal and external inspections across campus facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and operational standards.
- Direct and monitor repairs, renovations, construction, and facility improvement projects to ensure timely completion and adherence to specifications.
- Ensure the execution and continuous improvement of preventative maintenance programs for buildings, equipment, and fleet vehicles.
- Coordinates with the President and Dean of Finance and Administrative Services for bids, negotiation, and awarding of contracts for construction and renovations.
- Provide operational leadership during special events, including oversight of student gatherings and athletic events, to maintain safety, security, and facility readiness.
- Lead the implementation and activation of the Incident Command System during emergencies.
- Analyzes and solves facility and infrastructure problems, complex issues, and directs emergency repairs.
- Monitors the use of utilities (gas, electric, water, sewage, and garbage) and addresses abnormal usages and/or changes.
- Make informed, timely decisions regarding campus emergencies or public emergencies that impact college operations.
- Direct investigations related to campus public safety, including violations of college policies or applicable laws, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
- Develop, manage, and monitor departmental operating budgets and capital project budgets.
- Supervise key personnel including the Physical Plant Manager to ensure alignment with institutional goals and operational excellence.
- Prepare annual reports and other required documentation to support institutional planning, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Establishes policies and standards for physical plant operations as directed by the ACCS Facilities Division.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the President.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Architecture, Construction Management, Facilities Management or a related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred plus supervisory experience in construction, industrial or institutional maintenance and repair or related.
- Knowledge of construction codes, health and safety regulations, financial and management practices, purchasing, supervision and motivation of personnel, and state and local regulations regarding the maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Ability to represent the College in a professional manner in responding to State Department employees, executives, college personnel, contractors and the public
- Ability to take initiative, handle multiple priorities, and complete various projects within designated deadlines
- Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment, initiative, self-direction and effectively manages stress associated with the work
- Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of five (5) years' supervisory experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years' operations management experience.
- A valid driver license with acceptable driving record.
- Strong computer skills.
