Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Houston, TX for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will take the technical lead on specific projects as identified by the Engineering manager. Primary focus will be to design, validate, support manufacturing and testing of EnQuest or jointly designed equipment. The equipment scope includes but is not limited to Blenders, Frac Pumpers, Power Generator sets and power distribution product lines – both rebuild and new production. Additionally, will participate in new equipment quoting process, value engineering initiatives and sales meetings, as required.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities
- Creates detailed mechanical design work that includes, but is not limited to, Solidworks 3D parametric modeling, drawings and schematics, calculations, FEAs and testing documentation.
- Responsible for the specification compliance of designs
- Responsible for mechanical part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability, and cost
- Responsible for creating and presenting mechanical designs at design reviews
- Highlights all mechanical and technical risks to the Engineering Manager
- Keeps up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards
- Liaise with other departments to ensure that the required information is available when needed and customer requests are addressed in a timely manner
- Follows departmental processes relating to the management of designs
- Responsible for creation of 2D drawings and schematics to allow manufacture or purchase
- Responsible for creating assembly drawings and bills of materials
- Responsible for tracking design cost as projects progress
- Responsible for completing design change requests in a timely manner
- Ensures the mechanical design meets applicable standards, industry safety requirements and design scope
- Works closely with operations, manufacturing, and production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacturing
- Responsible for reporting the progress of all assigned tasks to the Engineering Manager and Project Management teams
- Is available for onsite customer technical support and root cause analysis as required
- Assumes the technical lead on specific projects and works with other engineers and designers to complete engineering work to complete projects
- Responsible for checking drawing/parts libraries are up to date and correct regularly
- Responsible for checking and approving Mechanical Designers’ designs and drawings
- Takes responsibility for coaching and supporting Mechanical Designers in design techniques and the departmental processes
Qualifications
- BS degree in Mechanical engineering
- Must have previous design and manufacturing support experience in one or more of the following product lines: Blender, Frac Pump, Power Generation and/or Power Distribution Unit design.
- Solidworks experience preferred. AutoCAD/Inventor is also acceptable.
- Manufacturing experience – supporting production, liaising with quality, and working with planning and purchasing groups in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to create and comprehend technical drawings, including hydraulic and electrical schematics
- Ability to co-ordinate with the other engineering disciplines (electrical) within the department to produce multidisciplinary design solutions
- Able to report design status on the assigned tasks throughout the project
- Able to be a technical resource to help resolve issues and provide solutions for manufacturing or the field service group.
- Experience leading a cross functional design team including designers and other engineers
- Liaise with other company employees regularly to update design status
- Ensures the mechanical design functionally meets the users’ requirements
- Produces designs to specified deadlines and achieves the required timescales
- Works with other members of the mechanical design team to exchange ideas and jointly solve problems.
- Confident, proactive character, ability to take the lead in challenging situations
- Good communication skills, dealing with other employees and external clients
- Advanced knowledge of PDM in addition to ECR and ECN processes.
Working Conditions
- Majority of time will be spent in the office work area.
- Will also work in a climate-controlled Electronics Lab, Manufacturing Floor and/or Test Line.
Salary : $97,000 - $117,000
