Your role will contribute to the transformative mission of making shared spaces more inclusive and human-centric.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for fostering authentic, empathetic user interactions
- Experience in data analysis and research to support matchmaking algorithm improvement
- Familiarity with AI or tech-enhanced matchmaking processes is a plus
- Ability to work effectively within hybrid work environments
- Flexibility and creativity in problem-solving to enhance the overall user experience
- Passion for community-building and promoting genuine human connections
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Communication, or related fields is a plus
What you’re actually doing
You will sit inside a café in Santa Monica and:
- Walk up to strangers and start real conversations
- Understand what’s actually going on in their life (not surface-level small talk)
- Turn that into a working “profile” in your head
- Introduce them to someone else in the space who they should meet
- Watch what happens next
Then you’ll track:
- Did they actually talk?
- Did they stay longer?
- Did they come back another day?
- Did they seek each other out again?
If they don’t, the match failed. That’s on us.
This role is uncomfortable by design
You will:
- Interrupt people’s routines
- Risk being ignored or rejected
- Make introductions that don’t land
- Be wrong in public
If that sounds draining, don’t apply.
If that sounds like the only way to figure out if something real works, keep reading.
What we care about (and what we don’t)
We don’t care about:
- Your resume
- Your “community building” experience
- Your ability to post on social media
We care about:
- Can you walk up to someone without hesitation?
- Can you understand them in under 5 minutes?
- Can you connect two people in a way that feels obvious after it happens?
- Can you tell us why something worked or failed?
Who tends to be good at this
- Bartenders who know their regulars deeply
- Servers who read tables instantly
- Trainers or instructors who build real rapport
- Recruiters who actually understand people (not just keywords)
But background matters less than behavior.
What success looks like
- People you introduce meet again without you
- The café starts to feel different (people recognize each other)
- You can explain patterns: who connects, who doesn’t, and why
If you can do this, you’re not just doing a job; you’re helping define a new category of product.
How to apply
Don’t send a resume.
Send a short note to adil@enkidu.com about a time you introduced two people and it actually mattered or a time you failed to connect people and why.
If you can’t think of either, this probably isn’t for you.
