Mechanical Engineer III – Pittsburgh, PA
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will design advanced electro-mechanical inertial guidance test systems, applying your expertise to create precision-driven, high-performance mechanisms. This is an exciting opportunity for engineers with experience in gimbaled systems, stabilized platforms, and closed-loop servo-controlled mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop design criteria, collaborate on system requirements, and iterate on designs and analyses to support system trade studies and optimize gimbal system performance.
- Design complex electro-mechanical test systems using advanced calculations, stress and stiffness structural analysis, and high-precision closed-loop mechanisms.
- Size and select critical mechanical and electro-mechanical components, including precision bearings, motors, actuators, encoders, drives, brakes, and mechanical stops.
- Prepare, review, and approve drawings, calculations, models, Bills of Material, and manufacturing work instructions.
- Apply advanced metrology techniques using modern optronic and laser technology.
- Develop acceptance test procedures and write system manuals.
- Interface with customers during design, provide post-delivery support, and deliver presentations.
- Lead project teams and serve as the customer point-of-contact when required.
- Perform duties under limited supervision, demonstrating independent engineering judgment.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of seven years of experience in a related engineering environment.
- Proficient with CAD/solid modeling tools; experience with Autodesk Inventor preferred.
- Experience with MIL-STD-810 is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
