What You’ll Be Doing

As the Project Accountant, you’ll support both the accounting and project management teams by helping oversee job cost tracking, billing processes, subcontractor requisitions, vendor invoices, and project financial reporting.

You’ll play a critical role in helping projects remain financially organized, accurate, and on track from start to finish.

Core Responsibilities

Project Costing & Financial Reporting

• Assist with cost analysis, forecasting updates, month-end reporting, and WIP schedules
• Manage and track project job costs within Sage 300 and construction management software
• Work closely with estimating and contract administration teams to establish and maintain project estimates
• Collaborate with Project Managers to update and review project costs monthly

Billing & Requisitions

• Assist Project Managers with preparing and processing owner requisitions
• Process and manage subcontractor requisitions for payment
• Verify previously billed amounts, retention, and current billing accuracy
• Support the preparation and tracking of project-related financial documentation

Vendor Invoice & Accounts Payable Support

• Review vendor invoices against purchase orders for accuracy
• Verify quantities, unit pricing, invoice extensions, and applicable sales/use taxes
• Run and review construction accounting reports as needed
• Coordinate with Accounts Payable and Project Management teams to maintain accurate financial records

Documentation & Administrative Support

• Assist with processing check runs and verifying required supporting documentation
• Maintain organized project and accounting files related to billing and payment processes
• Respond to subcontractor and vendor inquiries in a professional and timely manner
• Support day-to-day accounting operations across active construction projects

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Approximately 3 years of accounting experience, ideally within construction or project-based industries
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Sage 300, Timberline, or similar construction accounting software preferred
• Familiarity with:
• AIA billing
• Construction requisitions
• Change orders
• Project cost tracking
• Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Team-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
