Mechanical Engineer – Heavy Civil & Underground Construction
Location: Evansville, IN
An industry-leading construction and engineering company is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its team in Evansville, IN. This organization is nationally recognized for its work in underground mine development and heavy civil construction, specializing in hoisting systems, conveyance systems, tunneling equipment, and large-scale infrastructure projects across North America.
Position Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer will support the design, manufacture, modification, and installation of heavy mechanical systems and equipment for underground and tunneling operations. This role plays a key part in taking projects from concept through completion, supporting both in-house equipment design and active field projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer mechanical systems, structures, and components for mining and tunneling operations.
- Perform stress and fatigue analysis through hand calculations and FEA software.
- Create and review detailed fabrication drawings, specifications, and documentation.
- Collaborate with project and equipment teams to develop standards for new and existing systems.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to source components and ensure technical accuracy.
- Provide on-site engineering and troubleshooting support as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
- Support equipment procurement and contribute to technical project planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 4 years of experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering, with emphasis on machine design.
- Experience with power transmission systems, hydraulics, and general mechanical design.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor/Vault, FEA, GD&T, welding specs, and fabrication drawing development.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- P.E. license or willingness to obtain
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites.
Salary : $100,000 - $140,000
