Job Description
We are seeking a Lead Estimator with deep experience in heavy civil construction—including earthwork, utilities, bridge, and concrete work. The ideal candidate will bring both field and estimating expertise, with the ability to lead large pursuits and manage complex bids from start to finish.
This is a senior-level position reporting directly to the Chief Estimator. The Lead Estimator will oversee the development of accurate, competitive, and timely estimates for a wide range of civil infrastructure projects, often in urban environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and complete preparation of estimates for heavy civil infrastructure projects
- Work independently and as part of estimating teams for large and joint venture bids
- Prepare estimates for bridge, roadway, rail/transit, and other major civil scopes
- Oversee quantity takeoffs, methods analysis, schedule creation, and risk assessment
- Manage vendor and subcontractor outreach, bid coverage, and proposal evaluation
- Identify value engineering opportunities and alternate technical approaches
- Maintain estimating schedules, bid documentation, and DBE plans
- Present project details, risks, and sequencing to executive leadership
- Perform certain post-bid buyout and procurement activities
- Mentor junior and mid-level team members
- Assist in client development and relationship management
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, utilities, support of excavation, and cast-in-place concrete
- Proven leadership, accuracy, and creative problem-solving abilities
- Exceptional communication, organization, and team management skills
- Advanced skills in Excel; proficiency in Windows, Word, PowerPoint
- Familiarity with HeavyBid or similar estimating software preferred
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (preferred)
- 15 years of experience in heavy civil/highway and bridge construction
- 10 years of estimating/project management experience, including lead estimator roles on $50M projects
- Experience in design-build and joint venture estimating strongly preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
