This firm is a fast-growing provider of bookkeeping, accounting operations, and outsourced CFO services for small and mid-sized businesses that do not have internal accounting leadership or a traditional finance department. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Controller will play a central leadership role within the firm, overseeing multiple client engagements and ensuring that all accounting and treasury functions are delivered with excellence. This individual will act as the primary internal leader between staff accountants and the CFO, ensuring the integrity, timeliness, and completeness of all financial data for assigned clients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Lead and oversee the full month-end close process for assigned clients.
- Prepare complete and accurate monthly financial statements—including balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and supporting schedules.
- Review and validate journal entries, reconciliations, and financial data prepared by staff accountants.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reconciliations, reporting templates, and financial reviews.
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and areas requiring process improvement.
Treasury Management
- Assist with treasury oversight for clients, including cash flow monitoring, AP/AR review, and liquidity planning.
- Support the CFO with short-term forecasting and cash management strategies.
Systems & Software Management
- Work daily in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.
- Use SaasAnt for QuickBooks Desktop for bulk imports, cleanup tasks, and workflow efficiency.
Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise staff accountants, assign workloads, and review performance.
- Provide coaching and training for staff development.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted accounting partner for assigned clients.
- Collaborate with the CFO to present financial results and address client-specific needs.
Process Improvement
- Recommend and implement process enhancements.
- Assist in onboarding new clients and developing accounting workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience (CPA not required).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
- Experience working in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.
- Familiarity with SaasAnt (or ability to learn quickly).
- Strong client communication and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage both up (CFO/leadership) and down (staff).
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
