Engtal is partnering with a leading heavy civil contractor widely recognized for delivering some of the most complex transportation and infrastructure projects in the Northeast. This team is currently constructing a multibillion-dollar movable bridge replacement program in Norwalk—one of the largest infrastructure projects in Connecticut’s history. With deep self-performance capabilities across earthwork, concrete, structural steel, marine work, and heavy civil operations, this organization empowers its superintendents with strong control over quality, safety, and field execution.
We are seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent to oversee field operations on major bridge and civil structures. This role is ideal for a superintendent who thrives in a high-stakes, fast-moving environment and has extensive experience managing crews, coordinating subcontractors, and executing complex civil, structural, or bridge scopes in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily field operations for heavy civil and structural scopes, including excavation, foundations, concrete, bridge structures, and related work.
- Supervise craft labor, equipment, and subcontractors to maintain productivity, safety, and work quality.
- Coordinate schedules, sequencing, and means & methods with Project Management and Engineering teams.
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, shop drawings, and layout packages to ensure accurate field execution.
- Maintain strict compliance with company safety protocols and regulatory standards associated with heavy civil and bridge construction.
- Oversee installation of temporary works, support of excavation, marine operations, traffic control phases, and structural components depending on assignment.
- Conduct daily huddles, site walks, inspections, and progress reporting.
- Identify field issues and collaborate on solutions to minimize schedule or cost impacts.
- Foster a positive, productive environment for crews while maintaining professional relationships with inspectors, engineers, and project stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- 7 years of field supervision experience in heavy civil, bridge, or large transportation projects.
- Strong background in concrete, foundations, structural elements, and/or marine or bridge work.
- Proven ability to supervise crews, manage subcontractors, and execute work safely and efficiently.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and construction documents.
- Experience with DOT projects (CTDOT or similar) strongly preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
