What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Science position at English Valleys Community School District?
At English Valleys CSD, the High School Science Teacher develops and delivers engaging science lessons (Chemistry, Physics, STEM) aligned with standards, focusing on critical thinking and hands-on labs, while managing the classroom, assessing student progress, communicating with parents, and fostering a safe, inquiry-based learning environment to prepare students for further education and STEM careers. English Valleys also offers standards based grading.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum & Instruction: Design and implement lesson plans, curriculum, and activities for specific science subjects (chemistry, physics), incorporating technology and varied teaching methods (lectures, experiments, projects).
- Classroom Management: Establish and enforce rules, maintain a safe environment, and ensure students understand expectations for behavior and participation.
- Assessment & Feedback: Grade assignments, tests, and projects; provide constructive feedback to students and parents; track student progress and adapt instruction as needed.
- Student Support: Provide individualized guidance, mentor students, and help them develop scientific problem-solving skills and an objective mindset.
- Collaboration: Work with other teachers, department chairs, and administrators on curriculum, student issues, and school initiatives.
- Parent & Community Engagement: Maintain proactive communication with parents/guardians about student performance and school activities.
- Professional Development: Stay current with scientific advancements and educational best practices, participating in ongoing learning.
