The English Valleys Community School District is looking for a Head Junior High Boys Basketball Coach for the 25-26 school year. Note that English Valley offers a split season with Junior High Wrestling. We are located 13 miles south of the North English/Marengo exit on I-80 and roughly 30 minutes west of the Coralville/Iowa City corridor. Interested individuals please submit an application here. The ideal JH Boys Basketball Coach should emphasize developing student-athletes' skills, fostering teamwork, and creating a positive and competitive learning environment. The coach will be responsible for teaching basketball fundamentals, developing practice plans, and preparing the team for games and tournaments.
Responsibilities:
Teaching and Coaching: Develop and implement basketball skills training programs, teach fundamentals, and implement game strategies.
Practice Planning: Organize and lead practice sessions, including warm-ups, drills, and scrimmages.
Game Management: Coach the team during games and tournaments, making in-game adjustments and substitutions.
Team Building: Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development.
Communication: Maintain open communication with players, parents, and school administration.
Student Welfare: Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during practices and games.
Administrative Tasks: Manage team equipment, keep records, and attend meetings.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of Basketball: A strong understanding of basketball rules, strategies, and coaching techniques.
Coaching Experience: Prior experience coaching youth or junior high basketball is helpful.
Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with players, parents, and school staff.
Organizational Skills: Ability to plan, organize, and manage practice sessions and games.
Positive Attitude: A positive and encouraging attitude that fosters a positive team environment.
Passion for Basketball: A genuine passion for working with young athletes and developing their skills.
Character Development: Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
Additional Considerations:
CPR/First Aid Certification: Is required as well as other trainings.
