Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Radiation Medicine Therapist to join a collaborative Radiation Oncology team. This role plays a critical part in delivering accurate radiation therapy treatments while providing compassionate, high-quality patient care.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Medicine Therapist, this role is responsible for administering prescribed radiation therapy treatments, ensuring accurate documentation, maintaining equipment, and supporting patients throughout their course of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and position patients for radiation therapy treatments according to established protocols
- Review treatment prescriptions, charts, dosage, and treatment plans
- Operate radiation therapy equipment to deliver prescribed doses accurately
- Monitor patients during treatment and assess physical condition and treatment response
- Document treatment details, dosage, and setup changes in patient records
- Assist physicists with measurements, contours, and treatment verification
- Ensure blood counts and port films are reviewed and recorded weekly
- Perform basic dose calculations in the absence of a Radiation Physicist
- Maintain and inspect treatment equipment and report malfunctions
- Support scheduling, record keeping, and treatment room readiness
- Follow hospital safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
- Foster professional, compassionate relationships with patients, physicians, and staff
Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited Radiation Therapy or related program
Experience
- Familiarity with radiation therapy equipment, patient setup, and department procedures
- Typically achieved through on-the-job training (3–6 months)
Skills
- Strong analytical and technical skills related to treatment setup and dosage
- Ability to recognize and respond to patient reactions during treatment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Patient-focused and team-oriented approach
