What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Specialist I position at Energy Capital Credit Union?
The primary role of this position is to assist with the processing of the Credit Union's payments and Electronic
Funds Transfer (EFT) items, including Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions, Wire Transfers, and
Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) items. This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with all required
regulations and policies, especially with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control
(OFAC) policies, procedures, and regulations
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Processes ACH on behalf of the CU. Responsible for staying up to date on all relevant ACH
rules and regulations and assisting the Accounting Manager with the annual ACH Risk
Assessment and Audit. Also serves as the “Fed Operator” for the Credit Union. Remains
prepared to process these items in a Disaster Recovery situation. - Reviews Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) items submitted for deposit and processes return
items (checks and ACH) provided by Accounting in a timely manner to prevent losses. - Enters wire transfers received through the Member Resource Center on behalf of the MRC
Staff and forwards for review by Accounting Staff. . - Posts journal entries as required on fraud disputes, fee refunds, and other items as needed.
- Researches and resolves payments issues related to ACH, Share Drafts, RDC, and Wires to
assist front-line staff in providing resolutions for membership. - Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience-Minimum of two years of financial accounting experience, credit union experience a plus
- Education-A high school education or GED.
- Interpersonal Skills-Work involves contact with people beyond immediate associates regarding routine matters forthe purpose of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside
contacts take the form of service to the public (members or vendors), requiring ordinary
courtesy in providing assistance and information. - Other Skills-Thorough working knowledge of accounting principles, compliance, and regulations.
Proficient in use of calculator and excel spreadsheets. Emphasis on and development of
