What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Mechanical Engineer position at Energize Group?
A well-backed robotics startup in Woburn is automating a core automotive service process that has barely changed in decades. The business was founded by experienced entrepreneurs and is backed by leading players across the automotive industry. The team brings together automotive veterans and world class robotics engineers, moving fast from prototype to production and scaling solutions directly in the field.
The role
They are looking for an expert in complex mechatronic system design to help deliver multidisciplinary industrial robotic products. You will design, fabricate, assemble, document and test mechatronic systems that include multi-axis actuation, and bring real depth in system dynamics, modelling and vibration analysis.
You will work in a small team of engineers building a novel robotics and automation solution. With that comes a large amount of autonomy, and you will need to be comfortable in a fast-paced environment where requirements shift and decisions are made with limited information.
What you'll bring
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or equivalent
• 5 to 8 years of applicable professional experience in the robotics or automation industry
• Proven experience designing electromechanical systems from concept through product release and shipment at scale, industrial products preferred
• Expertise in the design and specification of electromechanical actuators, motors and sensing technologies such as encoders, load cells and proximity sensors
• Expertise in system dynamics, simulation, modelling and vibration analysis
• Experience running finite element analysis
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and preparing engineering documentation to ASME Y14.5 for production release
• Strong problem solving, communication and teamwork skills
Nice to have
• MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
• Industrial tooling design experience
• Experience developing free body diagrams and governing equations for electromechanical systems
• Experience performing static and dynamic load calculations and kinematic analysis
• Experience with industrial controls systems
• Experience building engineering documentation processes, such as bills of materials, part numbering and a CAD vault
• Matlab or Python
