Job Summary:
This exciting opportunity as an EHS Coordinator offers a chance to make a significant impact on our organization's safety culture. Develop and implement safety programs and policies, assign and train personnel on new protocols/procedures, and ensure that the organization is in compliance with all health and safety regulations and training requirements. This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about safety and environmental responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify systemic Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) gaps, develop corrective measures and implement solutions to sustain compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety law.
- Conduct routine compliance EHS audits/inspections, provide reports and action plans to ensure corrective actions are fully implemented.
- Act as the subject matter expert on EHS matters and advise leadership to ensure compliance with local regulatory law.
- Drive incident investigations and provide corrective and preventive actions to prevent the reoccurrence of the incidents.
- Identify training gaps, develop, and implement EHS training programs.
- Serve as the primary contact and respond to reports of leaks, spills, and any other release of potentially hazardous materials and emergencies.
- Drive and mentor Safety Committee, communicate action plans, and follow up with action owners.
- Effectively teach others to assess risk, identify hazards, and implement appropriate controls.
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Prepare and submit environmental, health and safety compliance documents to the relevant organizations.
- Monitor waste streams & waste products to ascertain ways to minimize or eliminate waste.
- Conduct hazardous and non-hazardous waste identification, containerization, consolidation, labeling, accumulation and shipment for disposal.
- Develop, implement and review protocols for paint usage and engine emissions tracking to ensure compliance with the Illinois EPA
- Support workers compensation case coordination.
- Conduct new hire and temporary employee EHS training as needed.
- Develop and implement JSA’s and training programs in the use of safety equipment including PPE, chemical hazards, noise hazards, physical hazards and safe operating practices.
- Develop and implement emergency evacuation plans and procedures.
- Keep abreast of the latest EHS trends, policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Interface with all levels of the organization & external agencies, vendors, and contacts.
Education and Experience:
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or similar technical field.
- 3 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety preferred
- Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills
- · Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, training/leadership skills
- · Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- · Ability to take initiative, meet deadlines and work in a team environment
- · EHS work experience in a manufacturing plant environment is strongly preferred
- · Knowledge of all federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety regulations
- · Demonstrated knowledge and application of EPA air, water, and waste regulations.
