Mechanical Technical Quoter

Job Summary

The Mechanical Technical Quoter is responsible for reviewing customer drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems, components, fabrication, and related services. This role works closely with sales, engineering, operations, vendors, and customers to ensure quotations are technically sound, commercially competitive, and aligned with company capabilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Review RFQs, blueprints, specifications, and other customer documentation to determine project scope and quoting requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and outside services.
• Analyze mechanical drawings, technical documents, and project requirements to identify risks, constraints, and special considerations.
• Request and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Work with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to confirm manufacturability, lead times, and resource requirements.
• Develop accurate quotations, proposals, and supporting documentation within required timelines.
• Maintain quote files, pricing records, and estimating databases for future reference.
• Communicate with customers and internal teams to clarify specifications, resolve discrepancies, and answer technical questions.
• Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, costing methods, and quotation accuracy.
• Assist with project handoff to operations or project management after award, as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or technical training in mechanical technology, engineering technology, manufacturing, or related field preferred.
• Experience in estimating, quoting, inside sales, manufacturing, fabrication, or mechanical systems preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Experience with ERP, MRP, or estimating software preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of machining, fabrication, welding, piping, HVAC, or mechanical assembly processes.
• Understanding of material types, labor standards, and production costs.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and build positive customer relationships.
• Commercial awareness and ability to balance competitiveness with profitability.

Position Demands

• Primarily office-based with occasional time in manufacturing or shop environments as needed.
• May require sitting for extended periods, computer work, and occasional lifting of files or documents.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
