This role is vital to ensuring reliable, secure, and uninterrupted communication across city departments. The RF Technician will install, maintain, and troubleshoot land mobile radio (LMR), wireless networks, and related infrastructure, working directly with city agencies and vendors. Your expertise will help keep essential services running smoothly and securely, supporting the safety and efficiency of the community.
Responsibilities
- System Installation & Configuration:Install, configure, and maintain RF systems including LMR, public safety networks, and wireless infrastructure.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:Monitor system performance, conduct signal tests, analyze network performance, and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime.
- Equipment Repair:Maintain and repair RF hardware such as transmitters, receivers, and antennas.
- Compliance & Security:Ensure RF systems meet regulatory standards and maintain secure communication channels.
- Collaboration:Work closely with city departments, external agencies, and vendors to support communication projects.
Qualifications
- Strong
understanding of RF principles and wireless communication standards (e.g.,
LTE, 5G).
- Proficiency
with RF test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers).
- Ability
to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Familiarity
with FCC regulations and spectrum licensing processes.
- Clear
written and verbal communication skills for documentation and team
coordination.
- Experience
with RF design and simulation tools (e.g., Ansys, HFSS).
- Knowledge
of mapping software (e.g., Atoll, MapInfo).
- Basic hands-on experience with LAN installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting (switches, routers, etc.).
Education & Experience
- Associate
degree or equivalent technical training in Electronics,
Telecommunications, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in municipal or public safety RF systems
installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- CompTIA Network certification is a plus but not required.
Preferred Background
- Previous
experience in municipal or public safety communications.
- Familiarity
with smart city technologies and integration.
Salary : $65 - $85
