Position Summary:

The Pre-Op/Recovery Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care before and after outpatient surgical procedures. This role involves patient assessment, IV placement, medication administration, patient and family education, recovery monitoring, discharge planning, and accurate clinical documentation to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities:

Pre-Operative Care

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and prepare patients for surgery.
• Initiate IV access and administer medications as ordered.
• Verify patient readiness and surgical documentation.
• Provide pre-operative education and address patient concerns.
• Communicate relevant patient information to physicians and anesthesia providers.

Post-Operative Care

• Monitor patients throughout the recovery process.
• Assess and manage pain, nausea, and other recovery needs.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
• Provide discharge instructions and education to patients and family members.
• Ensure safe discharge planning and coordination with designated escorts.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform ongoing patient assessments and accurately communicate findings to the CRNA, Director, Physician, or other appropriate healthcare provider.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Demonstrate competency in:
• IV therapy and vascular access
• Medication administration
• Patient assessment
• Airway management
• Patient education
• Emergency response procedures
• Maintain patient confidentiality and compliance with all applicable regulations.
• Assist with inventory management, supply stocking, and room preparation.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.
• Provide excellent customer service while fostering positive relationships with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.

Qualifications:

Required

• Current Tennessee RN or LPN license in good standing.
• IV placement experience.
• Strong assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Commitment to patient-centered care and exceptional customer service.

Preferred

• Previous experience in Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, Endoscopy, Procedural Areas, Critical Care, Emergency Department, or Perioperative Nursing.
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience.
• BLS Certification.

ASC experience is preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate.
