Position Overview
The Financial Analyst supports internal and external financial reporting, including the preparation and filing of SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K. This position analyzes historical, forecasted, and pro forma financial information; researches emerging accounting and reporting requirements; and develops comprehensive financial reports for business stakeholders.
The role also supports regulatory initiatives by preparing financial schedules, calculations, testimony, and responses to data requests. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting or finance, sound professional judgment, and experience working in a regulated utility or energy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and filing of quarterly and annual SEC reports, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K.
- Compile, organize, analyze, and format quantitative and qualitative information for internal and external financial reporting.
- Research accounting and financial reporting matters, assess the impact of proposed requirements, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Assist with the implementation of new accounting and reporting standards.
- Analyze historical, forecasted, and pro forma financial data to support business and regulatory decisions.
- Identify financial issues and opportunities by comparing information from multiple sources and evaluating potential solutions.
- Support regulatory initiatives by gathering data and preparing regulatory schedules, pro forma calculations, testimony, and responses to data requests.
- Review and analyze regulatory filings, rate-case outcomes, and other documents affecting financial performance and customer rates.
- Evaluate how changes to financial statements may affect customer bills, net income, and earnings per share.
- Apply accounting, financial, regulatory, and industry knowledge to business processes and reporting activities.
- Collaborate with corporate and business-unit stakeholders to develop effective financial solutions.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and well-supported documentation of work performed.
- Identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.
- Build productive partnerships across departments and influence stakeholders to support business objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline.
- Four or more years of experience in accounting, finance, regulatory finance, financial reporting, or a related field.
- Experience working across multiple finance or accounting functions.
- Strong knowledge of financial statements, financial metrics, and business performance measures.
- Proficiency with standard PC applications and financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly and collaborate across departments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Experience in regulated utilities, energy, or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience supporting SEC reporting, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K.
- Familiarity with rate cases, regulatory filings, and the relationship between financial results, customer rates, net income, and earnings per share.
