In this role, you will play a key part in managing the planning, execution, and successful delivery of high-profile natural gas transmission and distribution construction projects. You will oversee all phases of project delivery, from planning and permitting through construction, commissioning, and project closeout, while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager – Gas Transmission & Distribution Construction to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a key part in managing the planning, execution, and successful delivery of high-profile natural gas transmission and distribution construction projects. You will oversee all phases of project delivery, from planning and permitting through construction, commissioning, and project closeout, while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
You will collaborate with engineering teams, construction contractors, regulatory agencies, operations personnel, and business stakeholders to deliver critical infrastructure projects that support reliable energy service throughout Ohio.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
- Lead the planning and execution of natural gas transmission and distribution construction projects from initiation through closeout.
- Establish and maintain project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource plans while managing project risks and change control.
- Coordinate permitting, land agreements, engineering services, pipeline interconnects, material procurement, and contractor selection.
- Prepare projects for the competitive bid process and assist with contractor evaluation and award recommendations.
- Monitor field construction activities to ensure compliance with safety, quality, engineering, and regulatory standards.
- Facilitate project commissioning, in-service activities, and successful project closeout.
- Establish project cost, schedule, and scope baselines while tracking performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor capital expenditures, project forecasts, earned value, and financial performance.
- Ensure timely invoice processing and accurate financial reporting.
- Deliver projects within 5% of approved cost estimates while maintaining schedule commitments and operational objectives.
- Support Engineering, New Business, Sales, and Operations teams by developing project cost estimates and construction plans.
- Coordinate project managers, project specialists, construction inspectors, contractors, and engineering teams throughout project execution.
- Build strong relationships with municipalities, regulatory agencies, landowners, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Provide construction support to internal and external customers while maintaining effective communication throughout project execution.
- Coordinate inspector schedules, land services, and contractor activities to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure all projects comply with company policies, industry standards, environmental regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal codes.
- Promote a strong safety culture focused on zero incidents and operational excellence.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to protect project schedules, budgets, and customer commitments.
- Monitor project performance and proactively communicate status, issues, and corrective actions to leadership and stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience managing construction-related projects.
- 3 years of experience working with pipeline construction contractors.
- 3 years of experience managing project budgets and financial performance.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Proficiency with:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Construction scheduling software
- Project management software
- Strong understanding of construction project management principles, budgeting, scheduling, and contractor management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, field-oriented environment.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Knowledge of natural gas transmission and distribution systems, including gas flow, construction practices, contracts, and emergency response.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal operating and construction codes.
- Experience working with utility operations support systems (WMS or similar).
- Experience supporting regulated utility infrastructure or pipeline construction projects.
- Familiarity with permitting, land acquisition, and right-of-way coordination.
- Experience managing capital infrastructure programs within the utility or energy industry.
- Location: Hybrid – Columbus, Ohio (Airside Office)
- Onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
- Hybrid schedule may be flexible based on candidate qualifications
- Travel: 30–40% travel throughout the state of Ohio
- Assignment Duration: One-year contract (July 2026 – July 2027) with potential extension
- Relocation: Candidates willing to relocate to Ohio will be considered.
