Encompass Community Supports, formerly known as Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS) is hiring a Community Outreach Specialist to work in our Culpeper office. Encompass Community Supports is a Virginia State community services organization that improves the quality of life in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties by providing comprehensive mental health, substance use, developmental disability, housing, children’s, and aging services. At Encompass Community Supports, our full-time employees work 37.5 hours weekly.
The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for increasing awareness of the agency’s programs and services through a variety of outreach efforts. This includes focused engagement with medical, faith-based, and underserved communities across Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties. The specialist will share information, promote initiatives, and build connections with target audiences through events, partnerships, sponsorships, and direct communication. Social media activities for the agency are managed separately by the Communications Director.
SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Coordinates and participates in events and meetings, to include weeknights and weekends, as needed.
- Maintains healthy and consistent communications with the agency’s Communications team, all staff and community members.
- Demonstrates a positive, proactive, and team-oriented attitude, maintaining composure and collaboration even in challenging situations.
- Embraces a “never the same day twice” workflow within a busy, multi-tasking environment.
- Serves on internal committees related to agency initiatives.
- Ensures all required/assigned training is completed within a timely manner.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
- Reports directly to the Director of Communications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum three years of professional experience in community engagement and/or public relations fields. Working knowledge of agency’s catchment area of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and/or Rappahannock Counties a plus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field. Professional experience may be substituted in lieu of bachelor’s degree. Proficiency in both English and Spanish.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Basic principles as related to health and wellness.
- Cultural sensitivity and practice,.
- Knowledge surrounding the operation and care of computer equipment and cellular devices.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Knowledge of other software and applications relevant to role is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This work requires moderate physical effort working regularly with lightweight materials and occasionally with heavyweight materials (over 60 pounds). This position will require frequent travel throughout the agency’s catchment area.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Virginia driver’s license.
- Attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines. Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training is expected.
