Position Summary
We are seeking reliable, nurturing, and patient Respite Care Workers to provide temporary relief to primary caregivers of children and youth. This role involves providing supervision and engaging children in meaningful activities in a safe, supportive environment-Including the community and providers home.
This position would entail providing overnight services for a teenage boy with disabilities in the providers home for 4 overnights per month.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and supervision to children with special needs
- Engage participants in age-appropriate and ability-appropriate activities
- Ensure safety and well-being of the child during respite hours
- Follow the individualized care plan and any behavior protocols
- Maintain professional communication with families and agency staff
- Complete required documentation after each shift (e.g., timesheets, progress notes, incident reports)
- Adhere to all agency policies and DHS requirements
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or GED required
- Providers home must pass a check list of safety requirements by the family
- Experience working with children or youth with disabilities required
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (if transportation is part of the job duties)
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain)
- Mandated Reporter training (or willing to complete)
- Background check required per Wis. Admin. Code § DHS 12, including anyone in the home over 18
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
