Job Description: Psychiatric Technician
WBAMC is seeking highly skilled Psychiatric Technicians to support behavioral health operations within the Military Treatment Facility. This role supports patient care, crisis response, assessment activities, and behavioral health rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct or assist with treatment and rehabilitation of behavioral health patients
- Perform initial assessment procedures including:
- Standardized psychological testing
- Clinical interviews
- Mental status exams
- Substance abuse evaluations
- Identify mental health/nursing diagnoses & provide patient education
- Observe, monitor, record, and report patient progress
- Lead/assist in group and individual counseling sessions
- Implement safety precautions to prevent injury or suicide
- Assist with ADLs: nutrition, hygiene, vital signs, comfort measures
- Coordinate with military and community agencies for care and referrals
- Obtain collateral information from agencies and interpret behavioral health services to patients/families
- Maintain treatment records and documentation
- Support patients experiencing acute or post-traumatic stress reactions
QualificationsEducation (one of the following):
- Graduate of a Psychiatric Technician Program; OR
- Equivalent education meeting AAPT standards; OR
- Prior U.S. military Behavioral Science Technician training
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Psychiatric Technician within the past 2 years
Certifications
- BLS (AHA or ARC) – Required
- PMDB-M Level 4 – Required (can be completed after onboarding)
Other Requirements
- Must meet all facility compliance, credentialing, and onboarding processes

Work Schedule
