We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Scale Operator to join our team. The Scale Operator plays a key role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of scrap metal shipments. In this role, you will provide excellent customer service to customers crossing the scale, accurately create tickets, grade materials, and ensure that all incoming and outgoing shipments meet quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a background in customer service. Prior experience in the scrap metal industry is a plus but not required. The Scale Operator may also be referred to as a Weighmaster in the scrap metal industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Weigh and ticket incoming customers crossing the scale.
Use Weighmaster software to accurately create tickets in a timely manner.
Direct customers on and off the scales to ensure an even flow of traffic.
Grade incoming scrap materials according to established guidelines.
Provide outstanding customer service, assisting customers with questions and concerns.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Capability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
Direct customer service experience (1 year minimum).
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
At least one year of customer service experience required.
Prior experience in the scrap metal industry is preferred, but not required.
Other Job Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, or snow).
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for this role.
