We are seeking an experienced Dispatcher to coordinate daily trucking and transportation operations. This role is ideal for someone with 2–3 years of dispatching experience who is highly organized, computer literate, communicates well, and can effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The Dispatcher will schedule and dispatch company drivers and third-party carriers, coordinate material pickups and deliveries, monitor transportation activity, maintain accurate records, and communicate changes or issues to drivers, customers, suppliers, and internal teams. The successful candidate will be comfortable making quick decisions, solving problems, and adjusting schedules throughout the day as priorities change. This role will work at our Camden HQ and pays $30 – 35/hr. The expected shift is Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Schedule and dispatch company trucks, regional trucks, contract haulers, and common carriers to meet daily transportation needs.
• Coordinate material pickups and deliveries based on customer, buyer, supplier, and operational requirements.
• Monitor daily transportation schedules and adjust assignments as priorities, availability, or service requirements change.
• Utilize freight rates to identify cost-effective transportation options while maintaining service requirements.
• Communicate regularly with drivers, site managers, customers, suppliers, buyers, and transportation partners regarding schedules, delays, changes, and service issues.
• Troubleshoot transportation problems and customer, supplier, and hauler complaints and work quickly to find solutions.
• Maintain and update transportation systems and records, including jobs, loads, materials hauled, weights, equipment, and driver activity.
• Monitor trucking equipment and containers, including slow-moving containers, and coordinate movement as needed.
• Coordinate outside jobs, equipment, labor, and transportation requirements with managers and site personnel.
• Ensure required shipping and transportation paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
• Review driver daily activity and assist with correcting discrepancies to ensure accurate records.
• Assist with coordinating maintenance and repairs of tractors, trailers, roll-off/lugger containers, and other transportation equipment.
• Maintain insurance certificates and related documentation for contract haulers.
• Support company driver compliance by ensuring DOT cards and required physicals remain current.
• Assist with DOT/FMCSA compliance activities, including required drug and alcohol testing.
• Monitor DOT safety information and participate in driver and supervisor safety meetings.
• Assist with incident and accident reporting involving company equipment or transportation activities.
• Assist with scheduling manpower to meet changing transportation and operational needs.
• Work closely with scale and truck maintenance personnel to ensure transportation activities remain coordinated.
• Participate in company safety programs and promote safe equipment and driving practices.
  
  

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of previous dispatching experience required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn transportation and dispatching systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions when schedules or priorities change.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and provide practical solutions.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations is preferred.
• Experience in the scrap metal recycling or transportation industry is preferred but not required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
