Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Occupational Therapy (OT) Consultant to join our interdisciplinary healthcare team at an Intermediate Care Facility for the Intellectually Disabled serving 20 individuals! In this role, you will leverage your expertise in occupational therapy to assess, plan, and implement personalized care strategies that enhance resident independence and quality of life. You will work across various settings—including day program and residential—delivering comprehensive evaluations and interventions tailored to our population. Your passion for helping individuals overcome challenges related to disabilities will drive positive outcomes and foster a supportive environment for residents of all ages.
This is a contracted consultant position and requires 8-10 hours per month.
Duties
- Conduct thorough assessments of residents' functional abilities, including assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, and sensory processing.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that incorporate evidence-based occupational therapy techniques.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team—including physicians, nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists, and psychologists—to coordinate comprehensive resident care.
- Work with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities to improve motor skills, sensory integration, and adaptive behaviors.
- Educate residents and their families and staff on therapeutic exercises, adaptive techniques, and safety measures to maximize independence at home or in the community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program; licensure or certification as required by state or country regulations.
- Proven experience working in inpatient settings such as skilled nursing facilities; ICF-ID experience is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and functional assessment techniques.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics (school-based), geriatrics, and individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with speech therapy concepts is a plus for integrated resident care approaches.
- Ability to develop effective plans tailored to individual needs while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating within interdisciplinary team and educating patients/families and staff.
