ABOUT US
Empire Cleaning LLC is a growing commercial cleaning company serving offices across southern Maine. We're looking for reliable, detail-oriented people who take pride in their work. We hire both W-2 employees and independent subcontractors. See both options below.
PAY: Employees $20–$30/hr, based on experience. Independent subcontractors: rate to be discussed.
SCHEDULE: Work is in the evenings, after 5 PM, plus some weekends, when offices are empty. This is a good fit if you want your days free or are working around a daytime job.
LOCATION: Mostly Greater Portland and surrounding towns in Cumberland and York Counties, with additional accounts from Augusta to Kennebunk and in between.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Restrooms: clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, and mirrors; restock supplies; sweep and mop
- Kitchens/breakrooms: wipe counters, cabinet and fridge fronts; clean microwaves inside and out; disinfect tables; clean floors
- Floors: vacuum, sweep, mop, and spot clean
- Glass and entrances: remove fingerprints and smudges from doors and glass; disinfect handles
- High-touch areas: disinfect door handles, railings, light switches, and elevator buttons on schedule
- Trash and recycling: empty bins and replace liners
- Dusting: desks, monitors, window sills, baseboards, and glass dividers (without moving personal belongings)
- Common areas: conference rooms, stairwells, vestibules, and elevators
- Periodic tasks: scrub showers, dust high areas, and deep cleans as scheduled
- Follow client checklists and report damage, maintenance issues, or low supplies
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Reliability. Showing up on time, every time, matters most in this job.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in consistent results
- Ability to work independently or in a small team
- Able to lift 25–30 lbs, bend, climb stairs, and stand for a full shift
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Available for evening shifts (after 5 PM) and some weekends
- Commercial cleaning experience is a plus but not required, because we train

OPTION 1: EMPLOYEE (W-2)
- $20–$30/hr based on experience
- Paid training on our methods, products, and safety procedures
- All equipment, chemicals, and supplies provided
- Regular routes with consistent accounts
- Room to grow into lead or supervisor roles as we expand
- Part-time and full-time hours available
OPTION 2: INDEPENDENT SUBCONTRACTOR (1099)
For established cleaners or small cleaning businesses looking for steady commercial accounts.
Requirements:
- General liability insurance (minimum $1,000,000 per occurrence), with Empire Cleaning LLC listed as additional insured. A certificate of insurance is required before starting.
- Workers' compensation coverage if you have employees
- Your own equipment and supplies (commercial vacuums, mops, microfiber, chemicals, etc.)
- Registered business or sole proprietorship, plus a completed W-9
- At least 1 year of commercial cleaning experience, with references
- Ability to pass a background check (required by many client sites)
- Ability to invoice for completed work
