Job Overview
At Empire Building Materials, the CDL Truck Driver is responsible for providing efficient delivery and excellent service in a safe manner. The CDL truck driver is hardworking, reliable team member who delivers customer's orders to their business locations and maintains trucks, reports shortages and claims to their supervisor and also assists in loading and storing of materials from time to time. Local drivers assist in picking orders and forklift operations. The local driver also has the opportunity to fill in for route drivers from time to time, Route drivers primarily deliver to customers further away logging longer days and more miles on a daily basis, returning home daily.
Major Responsibilities
- Maintains a current Class A Commercial Drivers License as required.
- Prepares DOT required log of time on duty and driving.
- Organizes and secures load.
- Assists forklift operators when loading.
- Checks orders for accuracy.
- Completes daily truck and trailer equipment pre-inspection.
- Records all merchandise that is returned by truck.
- Follows guidelines established by the Department of Transportation.
- Operates all trucks in safe and efficient manner, maintains records regarding equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required skills
- Special skills required- Ability to do arithmetic, read orders, white instructions and complete forms. Capable of using or learning to use ELD equipment. Communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills and use safe lifting techniques.
- Other- Clean driving record, current CDL operators license and current DOT qualifications. Ability to stoop bend, twist and work in a variety of climates and environmental conditions. Ability to life up to 100 lbs. on occasion.
