UI/UX Lead -- Design System

ABOUT EMPASS 2.0 Empass is building the operating system for modern healthcare — one platform spanning clinical care (CareConnect), pharmacy (EmpassRx), diagnostics (EmpassDx), home health and gig nursing (EmpassRN), sleep medicine, a nationwide community health navigation network (CBOs, faith organizations, schools, LULAC councils), life sciences commercial engagement, and embedded fintech (EmpassPay/EmpassFin). Most healthcare startups pick one wedge and stay there.

We've built six interoperable segments on shared architecture instead: a Closed-Loop Referral Engine that works identically whether a community organization refers someone to a physician or a DME company fulfills a wheelchair order; a Scope of Practice Matrix that correctly governs every provider type from physicians to community health workers across every state; an NPI-based identity system that recognizes a provider across every segment they touch, so a lab director applying to a second segment doesn't start from zero. This isn't a pitch deck. We have signed contracts, real customers, and a hiring plan built against actual revenue — this role exists because this specific vertical is already generating business that needs staffing, not because we're speculating about future headcount.

Base Salary: $130,000–$150,000 Variable: 10% annual bonus target, capped OTE: $154,000 What You'll Own: Design system, tokens, and patterns shared across the ~700-screen platform You own the shared design system so consistency — navigation patterns, gating UI, status indicators — holds across every segment without per-vertical drift, as the single design authority all 6 PMs and Eng Leads work with. The Impact You'll Make: Nearly 700 screens exist across this platform today. Without one person owning consistency, that number becomes 700 slightly different ways of doing the same thing — a locked feature that looks different in every segment, a status color that means something different depending which portal you're in. You're the reason it doesn't.

Key Responsibilities • Maintain and evolve the shared design system (tokens, components, patterns) used across all verticals • Review vertical-specific design work from the floating UI/UX Designers for consistency before it ships • Partner directly with all 6 PMs and Eng Leads — this is a genuinely cross-cutting role, not embedded in one team • Prevent the kind of naming/pattern drift (e.g., inconsistent gating treatments) that's costly to unwind after the fact Requirements • 6 years product design experience, with at least 2 years owning a design system at scale • Experience designing for compliance-heavy or highly regulated software (healthcare, fintech) a strong plus • Comfort being the single design authority across a large, multi-team platform
