Position Summary

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the heart and soul of Emmaus Home. DSPs build meaningful relationships with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in day programs, community settings, volunteer sites, and other environments. They promote emotional, physical, and personal well‑being while helping individuals work toward personal goals through guidance, instruction, and role modeling.

DSPs actively seek opportunities for individuals to experience life as fully as possible—supporting skill development in communication, money management, housekeeping, hygiene, and other daily living skills. Successful DSPs are flexible, creative, compassionate, and deeply committed to the people they support.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of individuals receiving services.
  • Support individuals in achieving personal goals and practicing self‑determination.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to individuals, best practices, and program needs.
  • Transport individuals to activities, volunteer opportunities, or job sites.
  • Engage actively in daily activities, community outings, and skill‑building opportunities.
  • Assist with daily living skills including hygiene, emotional support, and physical well‑being.
  • Provide services in accordance with Individual Plans and Behavioral Support Plans.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation.
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and supervisory direction.
  • Maintain frequent communication with supervisors regarding daily activities and needs.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to pass exclusion checks and Pennsylvania State Criminal Background Check.
  • Pre‑employment physical and TB test.
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, inspection, and auto insurance.
  • Completion and demonstrated competency in pre‑hire orientation.
  • Experience in human services or DSP work preferred but not required.
  • Any additional credentials required by DHS, ODP, or AAW.
