Job Summary
Responsible for repairing surface imperfections on metal structures through the application of body filler, sanding, and aerosol touch-up painting, ensuring a uniform, high-quality appearance on stairs, balconies, trellises, louvers, and other metal components installed in company projects.
Responsibilities
- Inspect metal structures to identify dents, scratches, weld marks, and other imperfections requiring repair.
- Protect floors, walls, glass, and surrounding surfaces using appropriate masking and covering methods.
- Clean, degrease, and prepare repair areas using proper sanding and surface preparation techniques.
- Mix and apply body filler in accordance with manufacturer specifications and established procedures.
- Sand and shape repaired areas to achieve a smooth, uniform surface while maintaining the original profile and appearance of the structure.
- Verify the quality of completed repairs and correct any imperfections before paint application.
- Remove dust, debris, and contaminants from prepared surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
- Apply aerosol paint using the specified color, sheen, and finish required for the project, ensuring a seamless blend with the surrounding structure.
- Inspect the final finish and correct defects such as runs, color inconsistencies, insufficient coverage, or surface irregularities.
- Continuously monitor environmental conditions and adjust protective measures as necessary to maintain work quality.
- Control the spread of dust and paint, protect adjacent areas, and remove residue without damaging existing finishes.
- Remove all protective coverings and perform thorough cleanup of the work area upon completion of the work.
- Properly use, clean, maintain, and store assigned tools and equipment, including sanders, polishers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Promptly report equipment damage, malfunctions, or conditions that may affect quality, safety, or productivity.
- Comply with all safety regulations, project procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Skills
- Proficiency in interpreting mechanical blueprints and technical drawings with a strong understanding of shop math and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
- Ability to perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other measuring instruments
- Familiarity with industrial equipment troubleshooting and maintenance procedures
- Strong understanding of safety standards in manufacturing environments including proper use of PPE and safe machine operation practices
- Warehouse experience related to materials handling and packaging processes is a plus
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical specifications accurately
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing facility or factory setting with assembly line operations
