Position Summary:
Lawrence Public Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Dance Teacher to lead dynamic and engaging dance instruction for students. The Dance Teacher will design and implement a comprehensive dance curriculum that fosters creativity, discipline, physical fitness, and artistic expression, while also supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep knowledge of various dance styles and techniques and a commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Plan, develop, and implement standards-aligned dance instruction for students
• Teach various dance styles
• Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners
• Incorporate elements of dance history, theory, and performance into instruction
• Develop student choreography for performances, showcases, and school/community events
• Assess student progress through observation, performance-based assessments, and rubrics
• Collaborate with other arts educators and school staff on interdisciplinary projects and performances
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress
• Manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive learning environment
• Encourage student participation in school and district-level performances and competitions
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and program updates
• Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events as required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
• Proficiency in choreography and performance production
• Knowledge of child development and culturally responsive teaching
• Familiarity with Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and families
• Passion for inspiring students through dance and the performing arts
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, Performing Arts, or a related field
• Massachusetts DESE licensure in Dance or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
• Previous teaching experience in a school or studio setting preferred
• Experience directing student performances and choreography
• Bilingual or bicultural candidates strongly encouraged to apply
