We are looking for a Quality Engineer support our team at our location in Cranston, RI.
Position Overview:
The Quality Engineer supports EMI Industries’ quality management system and ensures that products meet company, customer, and regulatory standards. This role partners with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to identify, analyze, and resolve quality issues, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and maintains compliance with quality standards in a custom millwork, metal fabrication, refrigeration, and store fixtures environment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform inspections and audits of incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and standards.
- Support and maintain the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
- Investigate non-conformances, customer complaints, and warranty claims; lead root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes to resolution.
- Develop, review, and update quality documentation including inspection plans, work instructions, control plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and customer service teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Analyze quality data and trends using statistical tools; prepare quality reports and metrics for management review.
- Communicate with customers and suppliers regarding quality requirements, issues, corrective actions, and expectations.
- Evaluate and measure internal and external rework to improve first pass yield and reduce COPQ.
- Conduct supplier quality audits and evaluations; manage supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and track resolution.
- Maintain calibration records and ensure measuring and testing equipment is properly identified, controlled, and within calibration.
- Support internal and external quality audits and certification activities.
- Maintain good attendance and promote a positive, quality-first culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Quality Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of quality systems, tools, and methodologies (e.g. APQP, FMEA, SPC, 8D, PDCA).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Proficient in the use of measurement tools and inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges; CMM experience a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and with customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with quality management software preferred.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Self-motivated and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Quality Management, or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of quality engineering or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience in millwork, metal fabrication, food service equipment, retail fixtures, refrigeration, or similar industries is considered an asset.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The position involves periods of standing, walking, and use of hands to handle or operate tools and equipment. The employee may occasionally lift/carry objects up to 25 pounds with or without assistance during inspection or material handling activities. The employee is also required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Minimal travel may be required for training, inter-site support, or supplier visits.
