Are you an experienced Supplier Development Engineer with a strong background in automotive manufacturing and quality systems?
We are seeking a hands-on professional to support a premium automotive OEM in developing a supplier to meet required standards. This is a 12-month, full-time, on-site role across two sites in Rhode Island (USA) and Monterrey (Mexico), driving operational and quality improvements.
You will spend the majority of your time on-site, typically 3 weeks per month in Rhode Island and 1 week in Mexico.

Role Overview
You will lead supplier improvement activities, addressing gaps in quality systems, manufacturing processes, and business operations. The focus is on implementing robust systems, improving shop-floor performance, and ensuring readiness for new product introduction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement IATF16949-aligned Quality and Business Operating Systems
- Drive KPI tracking, visual management, and 5S standards
- Lead problem-solving and corrective action activities (8D, 5-Why)
- Introduce Layered Process Audits and improve housekeeping standards
- Develop training plans and strengthen management structures
- Improve logistics, materials management, and scheduling processes
- Support APQP/PPAP and new model launch readiness
- Drive continuous improvement and supplier capability uplift
Required Experience:
- Proven Supplier Development or Quality experience in automotive or manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of IATF16949 and AIAG standards
- Hands-on Lean implementation (VSM, 5S, waste reduction)
- Experience with APQP and PPAP
- Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
- Willingness to travel and work on-site full-time
- Ideally, you will be local to Rhode island, however, this is not essential
