Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Buyer assists in procuring medications and pharmaceutical supplies for use within the Hospital. Using modern, inventory control principles, the Buyer purchases, receives, distributes and maintains accurate and appropriate inventory levels. The Buyer also manages purchases within budget constraints, assists in the preparation of competitive bids and contractual agreements resulting in positive financial impact on the Hospital’s supply budget, and prepares and reviews purchase orders for Department Director approval for payment by the Accounts Payable Department
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a pharmacy technician course preferred.
Completion of a medical terminology course preferred.
Coursework in accounting preferred.
Experience
Two to four years experience as a Pharmacy Technician and or Pharmacy Purchasing Agent/Buyer in a contemporary health-system setting.
Previous Experience In Inventory Control, Purchasing, Or Accounting Preferred.
Licensure and/or Certification
Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
National certification as a Pharmacy Technician (PTCB or ICPT) preferred.
Skills
Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to satisfactorily analyze and present information on inventory control and the purchasing process.
Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, other healthcare workers, vendors, etc.
Excellent customer service skills.
Numerical and mathematical ability.
Ability to handle medications with a high potential for abuse.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
