Partnership Accounting Transformation Consultant

(Excel Modernization & Financial Process Automation)

Position Overview

Ember Group Consulting is seeking a Financial Systems Transformation Consultant to support complex partnership accounting and operational stabilization initiatives for our financial services and asset management clients.

This role is centered around helping clients modernize highly manual, spreadsheet-driven accounting and allocation environments that have become difficult to scale, maintain, audit, and evolve over time. In many cases, these environments consist of deeply interconnected Excel workbooks with embedded calculation logic, limited documentation, heavy manual dependencies, and significant reliance on institutional knowledge.

Consultants in this role will help clients untangle and stabilize complex Excel-based financial ecosystems supporting partnership calculations, allocations, forecasting, and reporting processes across large stakeholder groups. This includes reverse engineering spreadsheet logic, identifying control gaps and process risks, improving visibility into how calculations are performed, and helping clients establish a more scalable and supportable operating model.

The work is highly analytical, investigative, and transformation-oriented — ideal for someone who enjoys stepping into ambiguity, solving operational complexity, and bringing structure to highly customized finance processes.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze and deconstruct large, highly customized Excel-based accounting and allocation models with complex interdependencies
  • Reverse engineer spreadsheet logic and workflows to understand how partnership calculations, allocations, and reporting processes are functioning today
  • Identify manual process risks, control gaps, versioning issues, and operational bottlenecks across finance workflows
  • Help stabilize environments that currently rely heavily on institutional knowledge and undocumented processes
  • Improve auditability, transparency, and governance around financial calculations and reporting
  • Support the design and implementation of workflow automation and reporting enhancements using tools such as Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, Alteryx, or similar technologies
  • Partner with accounting, finance, operations, and technology stakeholders to document current-state processes and define future-state workflows
  • Enhance forecasting, scenario modeling, and “what-if” analysis capabilities that are currently difficult to perform within existing spreadsheet environments
  • Assist clients in reducing manual effort and creating more scalable, supportable financial operations
  • Contribute to broader modernization initiatives that may eventually evolve into enterprise platform or SaaS-based solutions

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong background in accounting, finance, financial systems, or operational transformation
  • Advanced Excel expertise, including experience troubleshooting, rebuilding, auditing, or optimizing highly complex workbooks and financial models
  • Experience working within complex accounting or allocation environments, ideally involving, partnership accounting, investment operations, or financial reporting
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous environments and independently structure analytical problem-solving efforts
  • Experience modernizing or automating manual finance and accounting workflows
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI) and/or Alteryx is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of controls, governance, ICFR, SOX, audit readiness, or risk management concepts
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across both business and technical teams
  • Consulting experience or experience supporting large-scale transformation initiatives is preferred

Ideal Experience Includes

  • Cleaning up or rebuilding fragmented Excel-based financial environments
  • Supporting finance transformation or operational stabilization initiatives
  • Automating accounting or reporting processes previously managed through spreadsheets
  • Improving controls and visibility within audit-sensitive financial processes
  • Supporting due diligence, remediation, or process standardization efforts
  • Leveraging AI, Copilot, or intelligent automation concepts within finance operations

Why Ember

At Ember, we believe great consulting is built on partnership, curiosity, adaptability, and execution. Our consultants work side-by-side with clients to solve complex operational and financial challenges while helping build sustainable solutions that create long-term impact.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on highly visible transformation initiatives involving financial process modernization, operational stabilization, and automation strategy while collaborating with experienced consultants and enterprise client leaders.
