Job Overview
Join us as the aquatics director for Elmsford Day Camp where you will be in charge of supervision of aquatics activities ( ensuring counselors and lifeguards are in ratio, managing swim schedules, overseeing the staff supervision, helping with conflict with campers, making sure everyone sticks to the schedule etc)
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise daily camp activities that promote engagement, teamwork, and personal development ( pool and rainy day destinations if pool is cancelled)
- Lead a team of counselors and staff by providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth camp pool operations
- Lead and Maintain a safe environment at the pool, on trips and on main camp grounds by enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular safety checks, and responding promptly to emergencies with first aid or other necessary interventions
- Communicate effectively with other staff, directors, parents or guardians regarding camper progress, behavior, and camp updates
- Manage logistical aspects such as scheduling activities, coordinating special events, and ensuring all equipment and supplies are available and well-maintained
- Foster an inclusive atmosphere that respects diverse backgrounds and needs, including those related to special education or behavioral management
- Promote positive behavior management strategies to encourage respectful interactions among campers and staff
Skills and Experience Desired:
- Strong supervisory management skills to maintain order and foster a positive environment
- Experience in education or working with children in daycare, coaching, or camp settings
- Certification in first aid procedures ( we will train) and certification in CPR ( we will provide) is required
- Ability to adapt activities for children with special needs or different learning styles
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with children, parents, staff, and community partners
- Background in pool management, lifeguarding, swim instructor, or camp staff, coaching and/or teaching is desired
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in childcare, babysitting, or teaching roles
