Position Summary
The Commissioning Manager is responsible for leading all commissioning activities for a utility-scale solar and battery storage project, ensuring that systems are tested, validated, and delivered according to design specifications, performance requirements, and safety standards. This role coordinates with the Owner, EPC contractor, and utilities to verify operational readiness and manage the commissioning schedule, quality, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all commissioning activities, including pre-functional and functional testing, energization, and grid-code compliance.
- Develop, review, and approve commissioning plans, procedures, and checklists in alignment with project specifications.
- Coordinate with EPC teams, Owner’s representatives, and utility stakeholders to schedule and execute commissioning activities.
- Monitor testing, verify results, and ensure all systems (solar PV, inverters, transformers, battery storage, and balance-of-system components) meet performance, safety, and code requirements.
- Identify, document, and track non-conformances and ensure timely resolution prior to handover.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of commissioning progress, test results, and performance verification.
- Support project closeout by confirming readiness for commercial operation and assisting with turnover packages.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, NEC, NESC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Mentor and supervise commissioning engineers, field technicians, and testing personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in commissioning of utility-scale solar PV and/or battery energy storage projects.
- Proven experience in leading commissioning teams and managing large-scale renewable energy projects.
- Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, battery energy storage systems, medium- and high-voltage equipment, protection and control systems, and energization procedures.
- Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements and applicable codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification preferred.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Boulder City, NV, including outdoor construction environments.
Work Environment
- On-site, field-based role supporting active construction and commissioning activities.
- May involve walking uneven terrain, climbing structures, and working in varying weather conditions typical of southern Nevada.
