Overview & Responsibilities Purpose of the Job: CAD / CAM technicians are responsible for producing and maintaining family-based 3D relational geometry libraries of manufactured parts, products, and fleet of CNC machines, interpreting dimensional aspects of new and historic drawings, and various aspects of supporting parts kit layouts. The technicians must coordinate with manufacturing engineering to determine “best method” of manufacturing each part type by utilizing available machinery and tools, planning and programming the machine contour-path machining of parts and working with software packages and integrated systems. Coordination with Customer Strategy team to determine optimal layout of parts kits to meet customer needs and expectations. Background and Experience: An Associate’s Degree in computer aided design and / or computer aided manufacturing is required. (6) years' experience in 3D modeling in a manufacturing environment, with strong understanding of services for technical products and/or aptitude. Understanding of family table concepts. Direct experience with PTC Creo CAD software package is preferred. Experience with use of VBA API scripts with Creo is considered a plus. Experience with modeling automation, namely producing BOM’s, drawings, or machining programs as an output from robust CAD models. Experience with CAM software for multi-axis machining. Direct experience with PTC Creo CAM software package is a plus. CNC knowledge and programming fundamentals. Must be advanced in Microsoft Excel (performing V-Lookups, creating Macros, etc.) and other MS Office utilities such as Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Access. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, analytical skills, and able to manage multiple projects under strict timelines. Must be experienced in project management, organizational, and time management. Ability to influence other departments and disciplines to work together and meet the needs of the customer. Problem solving aptitude, desire to determine the most efficient way to manufacture various parts and components. Willingness to learn new skills and perform new tasks. Ability to work independently. Nature of the Job: This job is critical to achieving Service Parts goals relative to manufacturing automation. Specific Job Responsibilities: CNC Machining Support Use of Creo CAD to create family table-based part models for all parts and components manufactured by Service Parts. Creating and maintaining a 3D library of CNC machine tables, fixture geometries, and tooling. Coordinating with manufacturing engineers, use CAM software to create machining programs templates for each part family. Ensure the viability of part family programs to be flexibly posted to various machines within the SVP fleet, as manufacturing determines final machine selection based on capacity / availability. Use of CGTech Vericut for NC file validation prior to manufacturing release. Understand geometric dimensioning & tolerancing and apply it during the programming process. Determine optimal tooling and cutting parameters based on material and setup. Parts Kits Provide technical support, design of layouts and coordination of packaging of Elliott Parts Kits. Design parts kits layouts to meet the needs of internal/external customers to support strategic business needs for growth, quality and productivity. Review Drawings for accuracy, and obtaining weights, and dimensions of spare parts. Correct drawings as needed. Determine how each part will be packaged in a safe, cost effective manner to ensure long term storage and safe handling. Group and package parts into kits to ensure viability for outages. Create Inspection Matrices and Engineering sketches for kit box orders. Coordinate with the Kit Box Vendors to approve kit box layouts and ensure accuracy. Coordinate with Project Planners and Engineering on required drawing updates and making the updates to the drawings General Manufacturing Support Create and maintain BOM’s in Windchill for parts and products manufactured in house by Service Parts. BOM structures are necessary for proper MRP planning and Product Lifecycle Management. Produce ‘conversion drawings’ to provide manufacturing with usable drawings. Most common conversions include foreign language to English, metric to imperial, and creation of manufacturing drawings for non-Elliott parts. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, routing instructions, manuals, and specifications.
