Position Title: Secondary Library Media Specialist/ Certificated Asynchronous Teacher, 1.0 FTE
Reports To: Building Principal(s) / District Administrator (as assigned)
Position Summary
The Secondary Library Media Specialist is responsible for leading and managing the library media programs across two secondary school campuses. This position ensures equitable access to library resources, maintains accurate and up-to-date cataloging systems, and supports instructional programming aligned with district curriculum and literacy goals. The librarian also provides leadership, training, and ongoing support to library paraeducators to ensure consistent and effective library operations across both sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of two secondary school libraries.
- Develop and implement library media programs that support student literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to integrate library resources into classroom instruction.
- Promote a culture of reading and inquiry across both school communities.
- Maintain, update, and organize library catalogs to ensure accuracy and accessibility of print and digital resources.
- Oversee acquisition, inventory, circulation, and deaccession of library materials.
- Ensure compliance with district policies for resource selection and intellectual freedom.
- Manage library software systems and troubleshoot cataloging issues as needed.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate library paraeducators assigned to both sites.
- Provide ongoing professional development and clear operational procedures for consistent library practices.
- Ensure paraeducators are effectively supporting students, staff, and library systems.
- Establish schedules, workflows, and expectations for library support staff.
- Support students in research, information literacy, and responsible technology use.
- Provide direct instruction in collaboration with classroom teachers.
- Assist students in locating, evaluating, and using information resources effectively.
- Ensure library services align with district curriculum goals and state standards.
- May be assigned teaching responsibilities, including the development and delivery of asynchronous coursework aligned to district curriculum and program needs.
- Maintain records, reports, and data related to library usage and program effectiveness.
- Participate in district committees, professional learning, and school improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid teaching certificate with Library Media Specialist endorsement (or eligibility)
- Experience in school library media programs preferred
- Strong knowledge of cataloging systems and library management software
- Demonstrated ability to train, support, and lead classified staff
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing multiple school sites or large library systems
- Experience with integrated library systems (ILS)
- Background in instructional technology or digital literacy integration
Work Environment & Expectations
- Split assignment across two secondary school campuses
- Regular collaboration with administrators, teachers, and support staff
- Occasional evening or extended hours for events or training sessions
