POSITION: Certified Multilingual Teacher – 1.0 FTE
LOCATION: Ellensburg High School
REPORTS TO: Principal
Purpose
The role of a Multilingual Teacher is to support students in language development and academic achievement by providing targeted services that address social, emotional, and environmental factors impacting learning. Working collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the professional community, the teacher promotes positive growth through the application of specialized skills and strategies. This position also requires strong leadership and collaboration skills to support and coach secondary teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners. The current structure of this position is based on the district’s existing instructional model and may be adjusted in the future based on student and district needs.
Responsibilities
- Provides instruction and activities for ML students in English Language Development (ELD).
- Plans, prepares, delivers, and evaluates ML lessons for large and small groups and individuals.
- Works collaboratively with counselors, teachers, specialists, students, and families to support student growth in ELD standards.
- Monitors ML student progress in both pull-out and push-in instructional models.
- Designs and develops instructional materials/curriculum and adapts existing curriculum for the ML Program and content-area instruction.
- Provides coaching, instructional support, and professional collaboration for teachers serving multilingual learners using language acquisition strategies and an assets-based approach.
- Demonstrates the ability to lead and support adult learners through collaboration, modeling, and instructional coaching practices.
- Involves families through parent nights and bilingual/migrant community outreach programs.
- Engages in ongoing professional development related to language acquisition and instructional practices for multilingual learners.
- Follows the Ellensburg School District ML Plan and assists in reviewing and adjusting the plan as needed.
- Assesses ML student progress through WIDA testing and district benchmark assessments.
- Monitors the progress of exited ML students and qualifying Title III Native American students.
Educational/Vocational Preparation Occupational Certificates/Licenses
- Washington State Teaching Certificate with ELL K–12 Endorsement required.
- Must qualify to work in proximity to children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.
- Completion of GLAD and/or SIOP training preferred.
Required/Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English preferred.
- Teaching experience in an ML classroom setting is preferred.
- Secondary classroom teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success in coaching and supporting teachers.
- Strong ability to collaborate with and lead ELA teachers in instructional practices that support multilingual learners.
- Ability to adapt instructional approaches and programming based on student and district needs.
