SUMMARY:
A Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher is a specialist that fosters a system of support for multilingual learners by providing supplemental English Language Development (ELD) instruction; collaborating with staff to advocate, co-plan and design rigorous instruction with differentiated support; and establish effective rapport with students and families to motivate and develop skills, attitudes and knowledge for multilingual students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Designs and implements instruction to provide supplemental language development services.
- Collaborates with content teachers, specialists and interventionists through co-planning and/or co-teaching to design instruction with targeted support for multilingual learners at varying proficiency levels.
- Monitors multilingual learners' language development progress using WIDA assessments and other data sources, providing actionable feedback to students and teachers to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
- Creates a welcoming environment where multilingual learners feel valued, develop a sense of belonging, and build confidence as language learners.
- Builds partnerships with multilingual families through culturally responsive communication and resources to support students 'academic and language development.
- Assesses students to determine eligibility for the Transitional Bilingual Instructional Program and appropriate ELD services.
- Attends all required meetings, collaborations, and professional development opportunities deemed necessary by the District Director and/or Building Principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position.
- Maintains compliant program documentation and required reporting.
- Displays good human relations, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to keep records and student information confidential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently, have or will have by the start date a valid WA State Teaching Certificate with an ELL or Bilingual endorsement required.
- Knowledge of the WIDA ELD Standards Framework
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications
- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred
- Experience working with student and families of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
- Establish and maintain effective, positive communication and working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators
- Set and maintain high expectations for students with an asset-based mindset
- Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
