Summary:
We are currently seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to join a leading energy solutions company specializing in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects across the power sector. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in building an in-house engineering team while delivering high-quality, innovative solutions for switchyards and substations.
The Role:
The Lead Substation Engineer will lead and execute technical design work, ensuring excellence and consistency across all deliverables. You will work closely with multidisciplinary EPC teams and clients, contributing your expertise to project execution, design reviews, and engineering oversight. This role requires adaptability, collaboration, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, solutions-driven environment.
The Lead Substation Engineer's Key Responsibilities:
- Execute technical design for substations and switchyards, serving as Engineer of Record where required.
- Perform and review structural engineering calculations, designs, and analyses.
- Provide oversight and review of vendor documents to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Mentor and support junior engineers while fostering technical development across the team.
- Collaborate with EPC teams and clients to manage RFIs, design reviews, and engineering support.
- Contribute to the development of guidelines, procedures, and standardized deliverables.
- Stay current with evolving industry standards and apply best practices to projects.
- Ensure quality checks and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and project requirements.
The Lead Substation Engineer's Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in substations, switchyards, or power generation projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC, NESC, and related standards.
- Skilled in engineering software such as SAP2000, Hilti, MathCAD, or similar.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects within tight deadlines.
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- U.S. work authorization (sponsorship not available).
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Desired Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Structural discipline.
- Experience with dynamic foundation and vibration analysis.
- Previous exposure to Aconex or similar document control systems.
- Knowledge of procurement, contract administration, and construction practices.
- Prior client-side or owner’s engineer experience.
