The Interior Designer II is responsible for independently executing design and documentation tasks across all project phases. The position actively participates in project discussions, takes on tasks of significance, and independently problem-solves. The position takes responsibility for coordinating consultants and proactively assists project leadership with the execution of their responsibilities.

The Interior Designer II is able to demonstrate strong design aptitude and facility with multiple modes of visual expression as well as exercise sound independent judgement with design tasks. The position requires proficiency in all of the technical skills of interior design, strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Collaborates on concept, design, and/or technical ideas
  • Engages in design tasks including detail development, elevation and plan studies, and conceptual modeling
  • Makes preliminary material and finish selections and adaptations at schematic level
  • Understands the constructability of design in context of budgets and schedules, building systems, codes, materials, etc.
  • Conducts product research
  • Develops furniture fixture and equipment (FF&E) including specifications, selection, preliminary budgeting and scheduling, and expectation management
  • Develops color and material finish palettes
  • Develops design presentation documents and packages
  • Develops construction documents and packages
  • Coordinates consultant documents including plans, estimates, and reports
  • Takes notes during client meetings; provides summaries and key takeaways
  • Assists the Project Manager in the development of project schedules and work plans
  • Completes assigned Construction Administration activities
  • Prepares presentations including drawings, models, presentation boards
  • Responds to, communicates, and supports a variety of tasks as requested by senior members of the team

  • Supports the work of project leadership, as needed/assigned 
  • Seeks out mentorship and continuing education opportunities for the development of skills and career
  • Pursues education/training/experience in team, project, and client management


MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design from a CIDA accredited program or a B.Arch
  • Three (3) years of experience as an interior designer/architect in a client services firm
  • Professional design portfolio
  • Sustainable Building Materials certified


PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS

  • Master’s degree in interior design from a CIDA accredited program or a M.Arch

Technical Skills and Applied Knowledge

  • Strong design aptitude
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of interior design:
  • Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign
  • Revit
  • AutoCAD
  • Sketchup
  • Enscape
  • Designer Pages for furniture specifications
  • Knowledge of digital project file management and standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to perform work using a Windows operating system


PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Advanced Photoshop and InDesign skills
  • Advanced Revit and Enscape skills


WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND DEMANDS

  • Office environment, no adverse environmental conditions expected on a usual basis
  • Occasionally visiting construction sites with exposure to outdoor elements, variable temperatures, hazards, and noise
  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods
  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information
