Elk Environmental, a division of the Empire Group, has an immediate opening for a Corporate Account Lab Pack Chemist/Onsite Waste Compliance Coordinator. Job Summary

Responsibilities include working at various customer locations and collecting, identifying, and packaging hazardous and non-hazardous waste for Elk Environmental. Some duties include leading technician/chemist teams as required, and provide lab pack services to technical customers, include segregation of chemicals, characterizations of unknowns, and proper packaging according to EPA, DOT, and TSDF restrictions. The Corporate Account Lab Pack Chemist is responsible for working at one or more customer locations up to 40 hours per week and will work with customers to suggest best management practices for facility waste compliance. The ability to travel is a must, some overnights as well.

Responsibilities and Duties of a Lab Pack Field Chemist

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.

Performance of field work to include consolidation, lab packs, chemical relocation, and other industry-related projects.

Characterize, segregate, pack, label, and prepare waste drums for pick-up and transport from customer locations in accordance with DOT regulations. Ensures drum count is correct and that drum conditions are able to be shipped in accordance with US DOT and company policies and procedures.

Accumulates and records accurate packing lists to obtain proper disposal facility acceptance.

Directly interface with clients to ensure customer satisfaction by understanding each customer's specific disposal and packaging requirements.

Overall quality control of waste materials to be shipped.

Ensure compliance of satellite and waste storage areas to include but not limited to: Ensure proper packaging, marking, labeling, closure, and time accumulation limits.

Assist with Elk Environmental Services Chemist(s) to identifying and packaging hazardous and non-hazardous waste at customers site for subsequent offsite shipment.

Research Safety Data Sheets to create profiles and manage offsite shipments.

Administrative tasks and paperwork as it relates to transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes (Packing lists, waste characterization forms, land disposal restriction forms, manifests, etc.)

Qualifications and Skills for the Lab Pack Field Chemist

4-Year College Degree in a Science related field.

Experience in the Environmental / Hazardous Waste Industry.

Prior Waste characterization (profiling) experience preferred.

Current OSHA 40-hour and DOT Hazardous Materials certifications preferred.

Valid driver's license

Must pass respirator qualification test.

Able to lift 50 pounds and move 300-pound drums with an electronic drum assist cart.

Proficient computer skills including standard Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.

CDL Class B or C with HazMat, preferred.
